The kids took a field trip to a fellow homeschooler's poultry farm and had a great time. Brittany and Charles gave us a tour of their land, including the chicken coops, the garden, and the fruit trees. They discussed the different kinds of chickens that they have (and one gentle turkey), and let the kids hold the chickens and pick some freshly laid eggs. After that, the kids made masks with chicken feathers and construction paper while we cooled off, then a neat hands-on instruction in the make-up of the egg shells, yolks, etc. They followed that up with a terrific brunch. It was really a terrific morning!
